Note
Caroline Sauer, nee Herschberger, was born March 19, 1854, in the Township of Ela, Lake County, Illinois. Her marriage to Victor Sauer was solemnized Sept. 21, 1875. She died Sunday, March 1, 1908, aged 53 years, 11 months, 12 days, of heart trouble and edema, superinduced by severe neuralgia, with which she had been afflicted several years. Although ailing in health for a considerable time, those near and dear to her did not realize that she would pass away so soon, and her unexpected death was a severe shock to them as well as the entire community, many of her friends not knowing that she was even seriously ill. Hers was that motherly disposition that offers up everything life holds dear for those she loved and that her health was broken so early in life, was largely due to her unwavering devotion to the welfare of others, often depriving herself of rest and bodily comfort to administer to the needs of relatives, friends or neighbors. And it was in keeping with her love for flowers that the beautiful floral offerings tendered by loving friends and relatives, bore silent testimony to the high esteem in which she was held. She is survived and mourned by the husband, a son, William J., two daughters, Mrs. Will Reimers and Lillie, her mother, Mrs. Barbara Herschberger, and two sisters, Mr. B. Wenegar and Mrs. L. Gosswiller. Rev. C. Hummel, of the Evang. Luth. church, officiated at the funeral, Wednesday, March 4, which was one of the largest in the history of Long Grove. All present mourned the loss of one who has gone to her final rest after life's weary trials and labors. As published in the Cook County Herald on Friday, March 6, 1908
