BIOGRAPHY OF MRS. A. KIEST?--------------------------------------?CAME TO THE UNITED STATES ?WHEN FIVE YEARS OF AGE?SETTLED IN LAKE CO.??The following story is the complete obituary of Mrs. Anna Kiest, mother-in-law of Rev. George A. Walter, of Ransom, ILL, who passed away in the latter's home, April 2.?Mrs. Anna Kiest, daughter of Fred and Charlotte Muehlke, was born in Kurhessen, Germany, May 23, 1837, and died in the home of her son-in-law, Rev. Geo. A. Walter, Ransom, ILL, April 2, 1925 of heart failure which ended in paralysis. She reached the ripe old age of 87 years, 10 months and 10 days.?When five years old, in the year 1842, with her parents, she came to this country and settled in Deerfield, Lake County, Illinois. The 82 years of her long life, since that time, has been spent as a resident of the state of Illinois.?March 22, 1856, she was married to Henry Kiest, a widower with eight children. To this union were born nine children, four of these with with three step-children survive their mother. They are: Rev. C. F. Kiest, Anna, ILL; Geo. A. Kiest, Shelby, Mont.; Joseph S. Kiest, Los Angeles, Cal.; Alfred L. Kiest, Oak Park, ILL; Jacob Kiest, Northbrook, ILL; and Mrs. Kate Edler and Mrs. Hattie Lange, of Chicago, Ill. A great sorrow came into her life when Jan 30, 1885, her husband died and again when on March 17 last, her only daughter, Mrs. Florence B. Walter, with whom she had made her home for nearly six years was taken from her side by death.?Mrs. Kiest was converted soon after coming to this country and united with the Evangelical church at North Northfield, ILL, which church she remained a faithful member until death.?No more tender mother ever lived. Quiet, industrious, self-sacrificing and devoted to those whom she loved. This testimony is given her not only by the children, but the step-children as well. Her faith in Christ was supreme. Her piety of the first quality. For some years she was almost a constant sufferer. In these hours of pain and trial her hand would rest securely in that of her Lord and Master. Those who knew her best loved her most.?In addition to the children, there are left to mourn, an only sister, Mrs. Minnie Wessling of Chicago, 48 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Her memory is blessed. A long useful career quietly lived, has ended and the rest in Heaven has come as a merited reward.?The funeral services were conducted on Sunday, April 5, at 2:30 p.m. at Ransom by?Rev. G. W. Engelter, a former pastor and now of the Evangelical church, Streator, ILL assisted by Rev. Carl Beuerlie, of Dwight, ILL. The remains were shipped by rail to Northbrook, ILL, her old home, where a large circle of relatives and friends gathered at the funeral services held in the Presbyterian church a 1:30 p.m. The service was conducted by Dr. H. H. Thoren, presiding elder of El Paso district of the Evangelical church. Interment was made in the North Northfield Cemetery.
