Husband Norman Gastfield followed Winnie in death on June 30. ?Winnifred was born in Port Angeles, on Oct. 18, 1914, to Bertram and Margaret Middleton. ?Norman was born to Henry and Juliana Gastfield, in Glenview, Ill., on April 23, 1910. ?He was a professional salesman and carpenter. ?The couple were married in 1951 and stayed together for nearly 55 years. ?They made their home in Port Orchard. When Norm retired in 1971, they purchased a travel trailer and toured the United States, spending time in Florida, Georgia and Nevada. ?They moved to Ardenvoir in 1980 and then to Entiat. ?In 1990, they moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where they lived until 2003, before moving to Wenatchee in 2005. ?He was a member of the Gideons International and enjoyed sharing the Bible with others. The family of Norm and Winnie Gastfield would like to share thoughts and memories of two wonderful people on their passing. Winnie went home on June 17, 2006 with Norm following her on June 30, 2006. ( We think she was calling him to come put in her new garden or to tell him to get the fishing gear.) Their life was full and rich, and they leave behind a great legacy of faith, giving and of sharing. They fed the poor, housed the homeless, and became family to everyone they came in contact with. Norm did a great work with youth and adults through the Gideons, which he loved. He gleaned from orchards and grocery stores so he and Winnie could take food to those who needed it. Winnie, while living with the pain of cancer at various times throughout her life, always remained strong and was an inspiration to those around her. Both Winnie and Norm loved to hunt and fish. They loved to garden and always grew beautiful flowers as well as having their vegetable garden. They lived with purpose and with a deep abiding faith that saw them through the good and hard times. They touched lived throughout the Western United States from Washington, Alaska, Oregon, Nevada (and parts unknown to this granddaughter). All of us in the family and their extended “adopted" family will miss them tremendously. We look forward to seeing them again when it is our turn to go home. We thank everyone for loving and sharing their lives with these very wonderful and special people. Norman Alfred Gastfield Born: April 23, 1910 Died: June 30, 2006 Winifred Christine Gastfield Born: October 18, 1914 Died: June 17, 2006 Preceded in death by a son, Michael Iler (1984). Gastfields to celebrate 50th anniversary
PORT ORCHARD, Wash.-- Norman and Winnie Gastfield will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on October 20, 2001 in Port Orchard, Washington, at the Manchester Community Church, at E. Madrone and Chester streets.
They were married on October 21, 1951 in the Charleston Baptist Church in Bremerton, Washington and lived in Port Orchard where their boys, Charles and Bert Iler and Keith Gastfield graduated from high school. Another son, Michael Iler, passed away some years back.
They were active in Elim Lutheran Church after their marriage, and after retirement, they traveled for a while, and upon their return to Port Orchard were active in the Manchester Community Church.
For a number of years they resided in Entiat and were active in the Entiat churches.
Norman has a long affiliation with the Gideons Organization and persons may make a contribution to the Gideons in the Gastfield name rather than honoring their 50 years of marriage with a personal gift.
The Gastfields will travel to Manchester from their home in Anchorage, Alaska for their 50th anniversary celebration. It is hoped their many friends all over the state of Washington will be able to gather in Manchester for the celebration.
A gathering for the Gastfields will be held in Entiat when they visit the community in October. For further information you can contact the Gastfield's niece, Winnie McComas, in Entiat at 509-784-8l04. |
